Alfa Spider Duetto
A 109-horsepower along with its dual overhead camshaft, 4 cylinders and 1570cc displacement engine. Duetto was the personal favorite of its founder, G. B. Pininfarina who faithfully curbs every inch of the last car he could produce. Duetto is also known as “osso di Seppia” due to its round, long tail. It has been used as a car of Dustin Hoffman in the movie “The Graduate” together with Katherine Ross and Anne Bancroft, which has boosted the popularity of Duetto Spider.
Although the name “Duetto” was a misnomer, it was only suggested by G. Trionfi during the Auto show competition in 1966 which was rewarded to him for his excellent suggestion.
In 1966, three models of Spider Duetto were to be shipped to the U.S. for launching and have achieved success in the foreign lands. The masterpiece of G. B. Pininfarina was an icon of beauty during the era of the first ever luxury cars. Physical features of Duetto are not really fancy but straightforward in showing its capabilities and its price.

More and more units had been produced preserving the style of the first Alfa Romeo Spider. No classy and fancy accessories but every reinforcement can be found in the engine, chassis and internal features.
Since the production of Duetto lasted only for two years, its value in the world market cannot be lowered down due to its rarity. Only the nobility of Italy and other countries could afford to have the Duetto at that time. The modest and stylish of every curve of its body is still indisputable. In fact, some of the features of Duetto have been used in Daytona Ferrari.
During its era, the Duetto was the most ideal minimalist luxury sports car which can be used in any climates. As most of the Alfa Spider Models, Duetto gives a very comfortable posture to the drivers and passengers with spacious interior. And in favor of Duetto, it was the most robust car Alfa produced.
In fact, it is one of the all-time favorite of almost all celebrities before that is why Dustin Hoffman never resisted to be given a Duetto to be used in his hit movie “The Graduate”. However, with only 6,325 units produced, there are no other units for other celebrities and only a few had to own a car like Duetto.
Duetto’s prestige and popularity has made room for another Alfa Spider Series which ran up to four Series. Every model depicts the elegance of Duetto which made the Alfa Romeo company the best car seller from 1960’s to 1980’s.
Today, Alfa Spider Duetto is one of the most sought cars to be included in any collection. And since there were only 6,325 units built, it is very rare to see a Duetto.
